Clearing operations are employed to completely neutralize an obstacle. Follow-on engineer forces mostly perform this operation. In military or police operations, obstacles are most times placed to divert the opponents and place them under attack by the opposing forces.
The obstacles are threats that must be detected and removed to avoid incurring losses in time and equipment, or the death of members of the team. Obstacles can be in the form of tactical obstacles (usually formed by the opponents), and protective obstacles (which are set up to protect members of the team).
