How can you solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients represented by letter

s?

Answer:

X=3

Step-by-step explanation:

For a linear equation like 2x + 3 = 9 you would start with subtracting 3 from both sides. Then you would divide both sides by 2 to get x by itself. You get x=3

For linear inequalities it’s the same but with a less than or equal sign. You just solve the same way. However if you divide a negative the sign flips like in my second example. I’m not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for since I don’t know what your problems look like but I hope it helps.

Answer:

b) 50

Step-by-step explanation:

you can multiply all of the answers by .7 (70% converted into a decimal) to see which one matches 35 miles.

24.5(.7) = 17.15 INCORRECT

50(.7) = 35 CORRECT

59.5(.7) = 41.65 INCORRECT

Need help with linear approximation
Dmitrij [34]
Consider a function f(x), the linear approximation L(x) of f(x) is given by

L(x)=f(a)+(x-a)f'(a)

Given the quantity: \frac{1}{203}

We approximate the quantity using the function f(x)= \frac{1}{x}, where x = 203.

We choose a = 200, thus the linear approximation is given as follows:

L(203)=f(200)+(203-200)f'(200) \\  \\ = \frac{1}{200} - \frac{3}{200^2} = \frac{200-3}{200^2} = \frac{197}{40,000} =0.004925

So your equation will be:

2(x+6) + 2(x+2) = 2(x+4) + 2(2x-2)

First, divide everything by 2

x+6+x+2 = x+4+2x-2

Then, combine like terms

2x+8 = 3x+2

Move the variables (the x's) to one side and the numbers to the other by subtracting 2x from one side and then 2 from the other

6 = 1x or 6 = x

Now that you know that x = 6, you go back to Earl's length and width equations

Length = x+2
Width = x+6

And plug in the value of x you got (6)

Length = 6+2 = 8
Width = 6+6 = 12

There are you answers! Hope this helped! (remember to add units, in this case the units are feet)
