In an 18-meter race between a tortoise and a hare, the tortoise leaves 23 minutes before the hare. The hare, by running at an av

erage speed of 0.5 meter per hour fast than the tortoise, crosses the finish line 1 minute before the tortoise. What are the average speeds of the tortoise and the hare?

We know that:
time=distance/speed
if the tortoise speed is x m/min, then since 0.5 m/hr=1/120 m/min
18/x=23+18/(x+1/120)
solving for x we get:
x=0.08 m/min
speed of hare is:
(0.08+1/120)=0.088 m/min

Answer:

Slope = 1/2

y-intercept = 30

Equation : y = 1/2x + 30

D. 150 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

We can use the two visible points you marked on the graph.

They are (0,30) which is also the y-intercept and (20,40).

Calculate change of y over change of x.

10/20 or 1/2

So the slope is 1/2 and the y-intercept is 30.

Therefore, using y = mx + b form, the equation is y = 1/2x + 30

Then, to find how many miles you drove if the cost was $105, we can plug in 105 for y in the equation.

105 = 1/2x + 30

75 = 1/2x

x = 150

In ΔUVW, the measure of ∠W=90°, the measure of ∠U=40°, and WU = 1.8 feet. Find the length of UV to the nearest tenth of a foot.

Answer: 2.3

Step-by-step explanation:

=

x

1.8

\cos 40=\frac{1.8}{x}

cos40=

x

1.8

x\cos 40=1.8

xcos40=1.8

Cross multiply.

\frac{x\cos 40}{\cos 40}=\frac{1.8}{\cos 40}

cos40

xcos40

=

cos40

1.8

Divide each side by cos 40.

x=\frac{1.8}{\cos 40}=2.3497\approx 2.3\text{ feet}

x=

1.8

=2.3497≈2.3 feet
