Aisha is going to ship some gifts to family members, and she is considering two shipping companies. The first shipping company c

harges a fee of $10 to ship a medium box, plus an additional $7 per kilogram. A second shipping company charges $15 for the same size of the box, plus an additional $6 per kilogram. At a certain weight, the two shipping methods will cost the same amount. What is that weight? How much will it cost?

Answer Step-by-step explanation:

Word (story) problems are easy if you use a table to translate the words to precise, concise math variables and operations. For example,

      Is means                =

    Larger than                                   +

     Four times a                           4*a

    F is 550 less than S                F = S – 550

      Total of A, B, C                       A + B + C

This seems obvious – until you get stuck on a word problem. So,

“the first company” , “a second company” becomes Let their costs be F and S

                                                                                                 Let K be the number of kilograms

  “$20 to ship a medium box, plus an additional $2 per kilogram”           F =  $20 + 2*K

   “10 for the same size of box, plus an additional $3 per kilogram” S = $10 + 3*K

  “the two shipping methods will cost the same amount” F = S

“What is that weight?” report K

Now, the math:

        F        =        S

  20 + 2K   =   10 + 3K

     $10  =  K

Suppose y = 2x + 1 , where x and y are functions of t. (a) if dx/dt = 3, find dy/dt when x = 4. dy dt = (b) if dy/dt = 2, find d
qwelly [4]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

If y = 2x + 1, then dy/dt = 2(dx/dt).

If y = 2x + 1, then y = 2(40) + 1 when 40 is substituted for x.  y = 81.

(a) if dx/dt = 3, find dy/dt when x = 4:

       Replacing dx/dt with 3 in dy/dt = 2(dx/dt) yields dy/dt = 2(3) = 6.

(b) if dy/dt = 2, find dx/dt when x = 40:

        Replacing dy/dt with 2 in dy/dt = 2(dx/dt) results in 2 = 2(dx/dt), so dx/dt must be 1.

Solving a system of linear equations using the substitution method.
5x+4y=-26
5-x=-6y
yan [13]
Solve for x in 2nd equation
times -1 both sides
x-5=6y
add 5
x=6y+5

sub

5(6y+5)+4y=-26
30y+25+4y=-26
34y+25=-26
minus 25 both sides
34y=-51
divide both sides by 34
y=-3/2
sub back

x=6y+5
x=6(-3/2)+5
x=-18/2+5
x=-9+5
x=-4

(-4,-3/2) is solution
