When solid magnesium burns, it reacts with oxygen in the air to form a powder called magnesium oxide. A chemist performed this r
siniylev [52]

Answer:

A. The increase in the mass of the magnesium oxide was due to oxygen atoms in the air.

Explanation:

Burning occurs in the presence of oxygen. A chemical combination occurs between Mg and O in that the atom of magnesium attracts one another.

          Mg + O₂ → MgO

Starting with the magnesium, on reacting with oxygen a new compound forms. This is why there is mass increase in the MgO compared to the starting material.

kvasek [131]

Answer:

Detail is given below.

Explanation:

Chemical equation:

4NH₃ + 3O₂      →     2N₂ + 6H₂O

This reaction shows that when ammonia react with oxygen it form water and nitrogen gas.

There are two reactants on left hand side oxygen and ammonia. Ammonia is formed when nitrogen and hydrogen react. While on right hand side there are two products nitrogen and water. Water is formed by the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen.

The given reaction also shows that it follow the law of conservation of mass.

According to the law of conservation mass, mass can neither be created nor destroyed in a chemical equation.

This law was given by French chemist  Antoine Lavoisier in 1789. According to this law mass of reactant and mass of product must be equal, because masses are not created or destroyed in a chemical reaction.

A chemist measures the amount of bromine liquid produced during an experiment. She finds that 496g of bromine liquid is produced
vfiekz [6]

Answer:

6.208 mol

Explanation:

Mass of Bromine Liquid = 496g

Number of moles = ?

Relationship between number of moles and mass is given as;

Number of moles = Mass / Molar mass

Molar mass of Bromine = 79.9g

Number of moles = 496 / 79.9 = 6.208 mol

Briefly describe the following food chain. In your description, explain what would happen if any one of the organisms were to be
poizon [28]
The plants are the primary source of food in a food chain or a food web. The animals which feed on plants will be termed as herbivores or primary consumers like the grasshopper. The organisms feeding on primary consumers will be the secondary consumers like mice. The snake is considered to be a tertiary consumer.

If any one of the organisms were to be removed let’s say the plant, all the other consumers would most likely die since their food supply is no longer available for them to eat. The population of other consumers could fall but could also stay somewhat the same if they eat any other food.
