Answer:

small number = -3

large number = 12

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose two numbers are x and y

smaller number = x

larger number = y

Given that,

The difference of two numbers is 15

Equation 1

y - x  = 15

Five times the smaller is the same as 9 less than twice the larger.

Equation 2

5x = 9 - 2y

Solve them

-x = 15 - y

x = y -15

put value of x in equation 2

5(y - 15) = 9 - 2y

-75 + 5y = 9 - 2y

-75 - 9 = -2y - 5y

-84 =  -7y

y = 84/7

y = 12

x = 12 - 15

x = -3

RideAnS [48]

Answer: Sasha

Step-by-step explanation:

carlos- 54 divided by 25 equals 2.25 dollars for each gallon

sasha- 31.25 divided by 15 equals 2.083333(3 repeats)

They are both really close on price, but sasha's is cheaper

A new gas- and electric-powered hybrid car has recently hit the market. The distance traveled on 1 gallon of fuel is normally di
Doss [256]

Answer:

a) P [ Z > 70 ]  = 0.1075  or 10.75 %

b)  P [ Z < 60 ] = 0.1038   or  10.38 %

c)  P [ 55 ≤ Z ≤ 70 ] =  0.8882   or 88.82 %

Step-by-step explanation:

Normal Distribution  μ = 65    and σ = 4

a) The probability of the car travels more than 70 miles per gallon is:

P [ Z > 70 ]  =  (Z-μ) ÷ σ  ⇒   P [ Z > 70 ] = (70-65) ÷4     P [ Z > 70 ] = 1.25

the point 1.25 corresponds at values, from left tail up to 70 so we must go and look for the area for the point 1.24 which is 0.8925. Then we have the area or probability of all cars traveling up to 70 miles therefore we have to subtract 1 -0,8925

P [ Z > 70 ]  = 0.1075  or 10.75 %

b)The probability of the car travels less than 60 miles per gallon is:

P [ Z < 60 ]  = ( 60 - μ ) ÷  σ ⇒  P [ Z < 60 ] = (60-65)÷ 4    P [ Z < 60 ] = -1.25

Again -1.25 corresponds to 60 miles per gallon threfore we move to the left and find for point -1.26 which area is 0.1038 so

P [ Z < 60 ] = 0.1038     10.38 %

c) P [ 55 ≤ Z ≤ 70]

For  point  Z = 70 or 1.25 (case a above)  P [ Z ≤ 70] = (70-65)÷4

P [ Z ≤ 70] = 1.25

In this case we got the whole area from the left tail up to 1.25

P [ Z ≤ 70] = 0.8944 (includes the area of the point from the left tail up to the point assocciated to 55 miles and for that reason we have to subtract that area)

P [ Z ≥ 55 ]  = (55-65) ÷ 4     P [ Z ≥ 55 ] = -2.5  and the area is 0.0062

So P [ 55 ≤ Z ≤ 70 ] =  0.8944 - 0.0062  = 0.8882

The ratio (by volume) of salt and sugar in a certain mixture is 4 to 8. If the total volume of the solution is 300 cubic feet, w
Tatiana [17]
You will use the ratio 4:8 to create a part to part to whole ratio.

First simplify 4:8 to 1:2, then make it 1:2:3 (Salt:Sugar:Total).

Use this to find the volume of sugar. 2 sugars for every 3 total would be equivalent to 200 cubic feet of sugar for every 300 total cubic feet.

Fiona Follies is a small bakery that sells cupcakes and muffins. A cupcake sells for $3 and a muffin sells for $2. When all rela
Elan Coil [88]

Note that fiona cannot sell decimal number of cupcakes or muffins. That's why the options A and D are false.

Consider all remaining options:

B. 40 cupcakes and 80 muffins will cost $(40·3+80·2)=$(120+160)=$280, but Fiona Follies sold at least $300 worth of cupcakes and muffins. Thus, this option is false.

C. 60 cupcakes and 70 muffins will cost $(60·3+70·2)=$(180+140)=$320. Now consider expenses. $(60·0.75+70·0.5)=$(45+35)=$80. This option is true.

E. 80 cupcakes and 80 muffins will cost $(80·3+80·2)=$(240+160)=$400. Now consider expenses. $(80·0.75+80·0.5)=$(60+40)=$100 (exactly $100). This option is true.

Answer: correct options are C and E.
