40:10=12:3

Solution:

Since
40 : 10 = 12 : X

Then we know
10/40 = X/12

Multiplying both sides by 12 cancels on the right
12 × (10/40) = (X/12) × 12
12 × (10/40) = X

Then solving for X
X = 12 × (10/40)
X = 3

Therefore
40 : 10 = 12 : 3

Elimination Method: 6x - 4y = -24 and 4x + 5y = -2
nirvana33 [79]

Answer:

(-2;-6)

Step-by-step explanation:

First of all, let's rewrite the first one after dividing both sides by 2.

\left \{ {{3x-2y=-12\atop {4x+5y=-2}} \right.

Now, let's pick one you want to eliminate.

Eliminating x: Let's multiply the first one by 4, the second by 3, and subtract one from the other. Rest is simply solving an equation in one variable

4I-3II : 12x-8y-12x+15y = -48 - (-6)\\7y = -42 \rightarrow y= -6

Eliminating y: Let's multiply the first by 5, the second by 2, and add them together. Rest is simply solving an equation in one variable

5I+2II: 15x -10y +8x +10y = -60 +4\\23x = -56 \rightarrow x=-2

The function h(t) = -16t^2 + 16t represents the height (in feet) of a horse (t) seconds after it jumps during a steeplechase.
Vladimir79 [104]
A.) To find the maximum height, we can take the derivative of h(t). This will give us the rate at which the horse jumps (velocity) at time t.

h'(t) = -32t + 16

When the horse reaches its maximum height, its position on h(t) will be at the top of the parabola. The slope at this point will be zero because the line tangent to the peak of a parabola is a horizontal line. By setting h'(t) equal to 0, we can find the critical numbers which will be the maximum and minimum t values.

-32t + 16 = 0

-32t = -16

t = 0.5 seconds

b.) To find out if the horse can clear a fence that is 3.5 feet tall, we can plug 0.5 in for t in h(t) and solve for the maximum height.

h(0.5) = -16(0.5)^2 + 16(-0.5) = 4 feet

If 4 is the maximum height the horse can jump, then yes, it can clear a 3.5 foot tall fence.

c.) We know that the horse is in the air whenever h(t) is greater than 0.

-16t^2 + 16t = 0

-16t(t-1)=0

t = 0 and 1

So if the horse is on the ground at t = 0 and t = 1, then we know it was in the air for 1 second.

What is the factored form of x^3 + 125?
Lerok [7]

x^3+125=x^3+5^3

Sums of cubes can be factored as

a^3+b^3=(a+b)(a^2+ab+b^2)

So

x^3+125=(x+5)(x^2+5x+25)
