No, 100 people in an established country like the United States is no big deal, and they are not very likely to have a huge impact on the environment, culture, or beliefs. However, in a developing country like Nigeria, those 100 people could gravely impact the culture, environment, and beliefs. The Country is not established they do not have set values and 100 people is a good amount of people in a lowly populated area.
One reason is for an animal to come along and eat it's fruit, so that it can excrete the seeds somewhere else allowing that type of flower/plant to spread over distances :)
