Find the values of x and y
zhuklara [117]

You can use a tangent:

tangent=\dfrac{opposite}{adjacent}

We have opposite = 17 and adjacent = x.

\tan30^o=\dfrac{\sqrt3}{3}

substitute:

\dfrac{17}{x}=\dfrac{\sqrt3}{3}       cross multiply

x\sqrt3=(3)(17)     multiply both sides by √3

x(\sqrt3)(\sqrt3)=51\sqrt3

3x=51\sqrt3      divide both sides by 3

x=17\sqrt3

Use the Pythagorean theorem:

y^2=(17\sqrt3)^2+17^2\\\\y^2=289(\sqrt3)^2+289\\\\y^2=289\cdot3+289\\\\y^2=867+289\\\\y^2=1156\to y=\sqrt{1156}\\\\y=34

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other method.

30^o-60^o-90^o triangle.

The sides are in the ratio 1:2:\sqrt3\to17:y:x

Therefore

17:(2\cdot17):(17\sqrt3)\to17:34:17\sqrt3\to x=34,\ y=17\sqrt3

Hi I need question 5 solved using SOH CAH TOA!
Bond [772]

According to the trigonometric functions, we can see that angle x can be found through the one that involves the adjacent side and the hypotenuse, which in this case is the cos,

cos(x)=\frac{27}{30}

then, if we apply the inverse we can find the value of x,

\begin{gathered} cos^{-1}(cos(x))=cos^{-1}(\frac{27}{30}) \\ x\cong25.8 \end{gathered}

Answer:

x\cong25.8

victus00 [196]

Answer:

Tamara earns $2,050 each month.

She spends 65% of that, so the amount that she spends is:

S = (65%/100%)*$2,050 = 0.65*$2,050 = $1,332.50

Then the amount that she has left is:

R = $2,050 -  $1,332.50 = $717.50

Now she divides that in half, and deposits those amounts in two separate accounts.

She deposits $717.50/2 = $358.75 in each acount.

Then she deposits $358.75 per month, so after x months she has:

x*$358.75 in each of those accounts, so one of the accounts will have more than $2,500 when:

x*$358.75 = $2,500

x = $2,500/$358.75 = 6.96

So after 6.96 moths she will have more than $2,500 in one of her accounts, we can round it to:

After 10 months Tamara has deposited more than 2,500 in one of her accounts.
