What is the main reason that the densities of chlorine and bromine are so different?
Xelga [282]
Bromine has more protons in the nucleus. This results in bromine atoms being heavier than chlorine, and therefore more mass in a certain area (which is more density).

Give the formulas for all of the elements that exist as diatomic molecules under normal conditions. See if you can do this witho
GenaCL600 [577]

Answer:

They are:

H2, N2, O2, F2, Cl2, Br2, and I2.

Note: whether the element At molecule is monoatomic or diatomic is incredibly arguable. While some say it exists as diatomic because it is a halogen like bromine, iodine etc, At is in fact extremely unstable and no one has ever really studied the molecules on it, so, when others say it is monoatomic, this is also based on calculations. But the other 7 elements listen above is for sure diatomic.

(c) The nitrogen have an sp² hybridization?

Explanation:

(a) The lewis structure for methylisocyanate has the nitrogen with one lone pair and the oxygen with two lone pairs.

(b) The carbonyl carbon form double bond with the oxygen causing to form three hybrid orbitals sp².

The Nitrogen also forms a double bond with the carbon having an sp² hybridization too.
