A 5.00-kg object is attached to one end of a horizontal spring that has a negligible mass and a spring constant of 280 N/m. The

other end of the spring is fixed to a wall. The spring is compressed by 10.0 cm from its equilibrium position and released from rest.
1) What is the speed of the object when it is 8.00 cm from equilibrium? (Express your answer to three significant figures.)
2) What is the speed when the object is 5.00 cm from equilibrium? (Express your answer to three significant figures.)
3) What is the speed when the object is at the equilibrium position? (Express your answer to three significant figures.)

Answer:

1) v = 0.45 m/s

2) v = 0.65 m/s

3) v = 0.75 m/s

Explanation:

1) We can find the speed of the object by conservation of energy:

E_{i} = E_{f}

\frac{1}{2}kx^{2} = \frac{1}{2}kx^{2} + \frac{1}{2}mv^{2}

Where:

k: is the spring constant = 280 N/m

v: is the speed of the object =?

m: is the mass of the object = 5.00 kg

x: is the displacement of the spring

\frac{1}{2}280N/m(0.10 m)^{2} = \frac{1}{2}280N/m(0.08 m)^{2} + \frac{1}{2}5.00 kgv^{2}

v = \sqrt{\frac{280N/m(0.10 m)^{2} - 280N/m(0.08 m)^{2}}{5.00 kg}} = 0.45 m/s

2) When the object is 5.00 cm (0.050 m) from equilibrium, the speed of the object is:

\frac{1}{2}kx^{2} = \frac{1}{2}kx^{2} + \frac{1}{2}mv^{2}

\frac{1}{2}280N/m(0.10 m)^{2} = \frac{1}{2}280N/m(0.05 m)^{2} + \frac{1}{2}5.00 kgv^{2}

v = \sqrt{\frac{280N/m(0.10 m)^{2} - 280N/m(0.05 m)^{2}}{5.00 kg}} = 0.65 m/s

3) When the object is at the equilibrium position, the speed of the object is:

\frac{1}{2}kx^{2} = \frac{1}{2}kx^{2} + \frac{1}{2}mv^{2}

\frac{1}{2}280N/m(0.10 m)^{2} = \frac{1}{2}280N/m(0 m)^{2} + \frac{1}{2}5.00 kgv^{2}

v = \sqrt{\frac{280N/m(0.10 m)^{2}}{5.00 kg}} = 0.75 m/s

I hope it helps you!

An electron is released from rest at the negative plate of a parallel plate capacitor and accelerates to the positive plate (see
mash [69]

Answer:

(7.90 × 10⁻¹⁵) J

Explanation:

The electric force exerted on the elecrron by rhe electric field is given by

F = qE

where |q| = charge on the particle = (1.602 × 10⁻¹⁹) C

E = magnitude of the electric field = (2.9 × 10⁶) V/m or N/C

F = 1.602 × 10⁻¹⁹ × 2.9 × 10⁶ = (4.646 × 10⁻¹³) N

From Newton's first law of motion relation, we can obtain the acceleration this force confers on the electron

F = ma

m = mass of the electron = (9.11 × 10⁻³¹) kg

a = acceleration of the electron caused by the electric force = ?

(4.646 × 10⁻¹³) = (9.11 × 10⁻³¹) × a

a = (4.646 × 10⁻¹³)/(9.11 × 10⁻³¹)

a = (5.10 × 10¹⁷) m/s²

Now, using the equations of motion, we can obtain the velocity with which the electron reaches the positive plate

u = initial velocity of the electron = 0 m/s (since the electron was initially at rest)

v = final velocity of the electron = ?

a = acceleration of the electron = (5.10 × 10¹⁷) m/s²

y = distance covered by the electron = 1.7 cm = 0.017 m

v² = u² + 2ay

v² = 0² + 2(5.10 × 10¹⁷)(0.017)

v² = (1.734 × 10¹⁶)

v = 131,677,182.5 m/s = (1.32 × 10⁸) m/s

Kinetic energy with which the electron hits the positive plate = (1/2)(m)(v²) = (1/2)(9.11 × 10⁻³¹)(1.32 × 10⁸)² = (7.90 × 10⁻¹⁵) J

Hope this Helps!!!

A car with a total mass of 1800 kg (including passengers) is driving down a washboard road with bumps spaced 4.9 m apart. The ri
Drupady [299]

Answer:

k = 9.6 x 10^5 N/m or 9.6 kN/m

Explanation:

First, we need to use the expression to calculate the spring constant which is:

w² = k/m

Solving for k:

k = w²*m

To get the angular velocity:

w = 2πf

The problem is giving the linear velocity of the car which is 5.7 m/s. With this we can calculate the frequency of the car:

f = V/x

f = 5.7 / 4.9 = 1.16 Hz

Now the angular velocity:

w = 2π*1.16

w = 7.29 rad/s

Finally, solving for k:

k = (7.29)² * 1800

k = 95,659.38 N/m

In two significant figures it'll ve 9.6 kN/m

Arocket launches at an angle of 33.6 degrees from the horizontal at a
babymother [125]

Answer:

Y component = 32.37

Explanation:

Given:

Angle of projection of the rocket is, \theta=33.6

Initial velocity of the rocket is, u=58.5

A vector at an angle \theta with the horizontal can be resolved into mutually perpendicular components; one along the horizontal direction and the other along the vertical direction.

If a vector 'A' makes angle \theta with the horizontal, then the horizontal and vertical components are given as:

A_x=A\cos \theta(\textrm{Horizontal or X component})\\A_y=A\sin \theta(\textrm{Vertical or Y component})

Here, as the velocity is a vector quantity and makes an angle of 33.6 with the horizontal, its Y component is given as:

u_y=u\sin \theta

Plug in the given values and solve for u_y. This gives,

u_y=(58.5)(\sin 33.6)\\u_y=58.5\times 0.55339\\u_y=32.373\approx32.37(\textrm{Rounded to two decimal places})

Therefore, the Y component of initial velocity is 32.37.
