If f(x) = x + 4 and g(x)=x^2-1, what is m(g o f)(x)?
Andreas93 [3]

Until now, given a function  f(x), you would plug a number or another variable in for x. You could even get fancy and plug in an entire expression for x. For example, given  f(x) = 2x + 3, you could find f(y2 – 1) by plugging y2 – 1 in for x to get f(y2 – 1) = 2(y2 – 1) + 3 = 2y2 – 2 + 3 = 2y2 + 1.

In function composition, you're plugging entire functions in for the x. In other words, you're always getting "fancy". But let's start simple. Instead of dealing with functions as formulas, let's deal with functions as sets of (x, y) points:

Let f = {(–2, 3), (–1, 1), (0, 0), (1, –1), (2, –3)} and

let g = {(–3, 1), (–1, –2), (0, 2), (2, 2), (3, 1)}.

Find (i) f (1), (ii) g(–1), and (iii) (g o f )(1).

(i) This type of  exercise is meant to emphasize that the (x, y) points are really (x, f (x)) points. To find  f (1), I need to find the (x, y) point in the set of (x, f (x)) points that has a first coordinate of x = 1. Then f (1) is the y-value of that point. In this case, the point with x = 1 is (1, –1), so:

Answer:Area of the lawn is 1725 ft^2

Step-by-step explanation:

The yard is in the shape of a trapezoid. The area of the lawn can be determined by finding the area of the trapezoid. The formula for determining the area of a trapezoid is expressed as

Area of trapezoid =

1/2(a + b)h

Where

a is the length of one of the parallel sides of the trapezoid

b is the length of the other parallel side of the trapezoid.

h is the perpendicular height of the the trapezoid.

From the diagram,

a = 50 feet

b = 65 feet

h = 30 feet

Area of the lawn = 1/2(50 + 65)× 30

= 1/2 × 115 × 30 = 1725 ft^2

9. Find the area of the figure to the right.<br> area<br> 14 in
zlopas [31]

Answer:

1. 200 in.^2

2.

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Area of a trapezium=1/2(a+b)height

a=14 in.

b=20 in.+6 in. = 26 in.

height= ?

height can be gotten by using

formula : Soh Cah Toa

Toa is tangent∆= opposite/ adjacent

∆ = 60°

opp=? adj=6 in.

Tan 60° =opp/6 in.

Tan 60° = 1.732

1.732= opp/ 6 in.

opp=1.732*6 in.

opp = 10.392 approximately= 10 in.

Area of trapezium= 1/2*(14+26)*10(in.^2)

Area of trapezium= 1/2*40*10

= 1/2*400

= 200 in.^2 .

2. Area of triangle= 1/2* base* height

for first triangle =

base=4m

height =15m

Area: 1/2*4*15 ,1/2*60= 30m^2

second triangle =

base:?

height: 15m

using Pythagorean theorem;

hyp^2 = opposite ^2 + adjacent ^2

17^2 = 15^2 + adj^2

289= 225 + adj^2

adj^2 = 289-225= 64

square root

adj = 8m

area of second triangle : 1/2*8*15

: 1/2*120 :60m^2

total area: 30 m^2 +60m^2

==90 m^2
