From the given figure, it is clear that

Area of shaded region = Area of larger circle - Area of smaller circle

                                      = $\pi (14)^2-\pi (7)^2$

                                      = $\dfrac{22}{7}\times 14\times 14-\dfrac{22}{7}\times 7\times 7$

                                      = $616-154$

                                      = $462$

Therefore, the area of the shaded region is 462 sq. cm.
