An organic chemistry student was studying the solubility of Methyl-N-acetyl-α-D-glucosaminide (1-O-methyl-GlcNAc), a derivative

of glucosamine, in water but inadvertently added 1 equiv. of periodic acid instead. Based on your understanding of the reactions of monosaccharides with periodates, draw the organic product that the student obtained.

Complete Question

The diagram for this question is shown on the second uploaded image

Answer:

The organic product obtained is shown on the first uploaded image

Explanation:

The process that lead to this product formation is known as oxidative cleavage which is a reaction that involves the cleavage of a carbon to carbon bond at the same time this carbon which formed the carbon bond are oxidized i.e oxygen is been added to them

What volume would 0.853 moles of Nitrogen gas occupy at STP?
beks73 [17]

Answer:

19.12 L

Explanation:

At STP(i.e. Standard temperature and pressure).

The volume occupied by one mole of gas = 22.4 L

The pressure = 1 atm

The temperature = 273 K

Thus, since 1 mole of gas = 22.4 L;

Then 0.853 moles of N2 gas will occupy:

= (0.853 moles of N2 gas × 22.4 L)/ 1 mole of N2 gas

= 19.12 L

Which statement describes global winds?
sergejj [24]

Answer:

They blow away from poles to the equator.

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, we must take into account that global wind systems are formed by the constant increase in the temperature of the Earth’s surface. Thus, they drive the oceans’ surface currents. In such a way, we can say wind is the basic movement of air from an area of higher pressure to an area of lower pressure, for that reason they blow away from the poles to the equator.

Best regards.

Which best describes a chain reaction associated with a nuclear reaction? Neutrons released during a fusion reaction cause other
atroni [7]
The statement that describes a chain reaction brought about by a nuclear reaction is "neutrons released during a fission reaction cause other nuclei to split." This is applicable to fission reactions only wherein atoms split and produce neutrons that also cause further atoms to split, thus creating a chain or series of reactions.

Describe the orbital diagram of an atom with eight electrons. Explain how this orbital diagram demonstrates Hund's rule. PLEASE
Mama L [17]

Answer:

The orbital notations shows the sequence of filling electrons into the orbitals of sublevels. This filling is based on some certain principles. For an atom with 16 electrons, the orbital diagram is shown below: 1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁴ The maximum number of electrons in each sublevel of the orbitals are: 2 electrons for s-sublevel with one orbital

6 electrons for p-sublevel with three orbital

10 electrons for d-sublevel with five orbital

14 electrons for f-sublevel with seven orbital

According to the Aufbau's principle, sublevels with lower energy are filled before those with higher energy.

                           1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 4s 3d etc

Pauli's exclusion principle shows that no two electrons can have the same set of values for the four quantum numbers. Simply, no two electrons can spin in the same direction. Hund's rule states that electrons go into degenerate orbitals of sub-levles(s,p,d and f) singly before pairing commence. This rule shows that in each energy level, as the electron goes into the degenerate orbitals, they fill it one by one before they begin to pair up. As we know, each degenerate orbital can only accomodate 2 electrons. From the orbital diagram 1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁴, the 3p sublevel has 3 orbitals. In each of the orbitals, two electrons would occupy them to give a maximum capacity of 6. But the sublevel has just 4 electrons. Based on Hund's rule, an electron will go into each of the 3 orbitals first. The remaining electron will now pair with the first degenerate orbital. This makes a total of 4 electrons.

How long did the conversion of benzoyl chloride to n,n-diisopropylbenzamide take?
ser-zykov [4K]

It was first prepared by treatment of benzaldehyde with chlorine. the method was early for production of benzoyl chloride involved chlorination of benzyl alcohol.

Benzoyl chloride was made from benzotrichloride using either water or benzoic acid.

CHCCl + CHCOH → 2 CHCOCl + HCl As with other acyl chlorides, it can be generated from the parent acid and other chlorinating agents phosphorus pentachloride or thionyl chloride.
