He is deemed one of the first British scientists, after Sir Francis Bacon's tradition, he was as important as social contract theory. His work significantly influenced the growth of epistemology and political philosophy. His contributions to liberal theory and classical republicanism are reflected in the Declaration of Independence of the United States.
