Answer:

250 mph

Step-by-step explanation:

Speed of car = Distance / Time =

<em>The speed of the plane was 200 mph faster than the speed of the car. </em>

Speed of car = X mph

Speed of plane = 200 + X mph

Evans drove 250 miles in the same amount of time...

Speed = Distance / Time

Time = Distance / Speed

T = 250 / X ........(i)

same amount of time that it took a turbo propeller plane to travel 1250 miles.

Time = Distance / Speed

T = 1250 / (200 + X) .......(ii)

Substitute the value of T in eqn (i) to eqn (ii)

250 / X = 1250 / (250 + X)

250 (200 + X) = 1250 X

50000 + 250 X = 1250 X

1250 X - 250 X = 50000

1000X = 50000

X = 50000 / 1000 = 50

Speed of plane = 200 + X mph = 200 + 50 = 250 mph

Answer:

<u>Part (a)</u>

It depends how your calculator calculates quadratic regressions.

For my calculator:

  • Go to Statistics menu
  • Select quadratic regression: y=a+bx+cx²
  • Input the x and y values from the given table
  • Go to options and select regression calc

a = 1.177142857 = 1.18 (nearest hundredth)

b = 42.22257143 = 42.22 (nearest hundredth)

c = -12.87142857 = -12.87 (nearest hundredth)

⇒ y = 1.18 + 42.22x - 12.87x²

Therefore, the quadratic regression equation in standard form is:

y = -12.87x^2+ 42.22x + 1.18

<u>Part (b)</u>

To estimate the height of the rocket after 5 seconds, input x = 5 into the regression equation:

\implies  -12.87(5)^2+ 42.22(5) + 1.18=-109.47

As this gives us a negative value, this means that the rocket would have come back to the ground before 5 s.  Therefore, the height of the rocket at 5 s will be 0 ft.

(see attached graph → the rocket will hit the ground at approx 3.3 s)

36 out of 100 randomly selected taxpayers knew about tax incentives for installing energy-saving furnaces. Find a 90% confidence
tresset_1 [31]

Answer:

The 90% confidence interval for the population proportion who knew about the incentives is (0.28, 0.44).

Step-by-step explanation:

In a sample with a number n of people surveyed with a probability of a success of \pi, and a confidence level of 1-\alpha, we have the following confidence interval of proportions.

\pi \pm z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}}

In which

z is the zscore that has a pvalue of 1 - \frac{\alpha}{2}.

For this problem, we have that:

n = 100, \pi = \frac{36}{60} = 0.6

90% confidence level

So \alpha = 0.1, z is the value of Z that has a pvalue of 1 - \frac{0.1}{2} = 0.95, so Z = 1.645.

The lower limit of this interval is:

\pi - z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}} = 0.36 - 1.645\sqrt{\frac{0.36*0.64}{100}} = 0.28

The upper limit of this interval is:

\pi + z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}} = 0.36 + 1.645\sqrt{\frac{0.36*0.64}{100}} = 0.44

The 90% confidence interval for the population proportion who knew about the incentives is (0.28, 0.44).
