The final bill was approved by the Senate on August 5, 1861, by a vote of 24 to 11, and President Lincoln signed it into law the following day. Although this bill had symbolic value, it had no bearing on the uprising or the talks during the war. Every American was able to purchase any property up to 160 acres of free federal land thanks to a congress statute from 1862. The process of purchasing a homestead consists mostly of three steps. The federal government was authorized in early 1962.
