Blood pressure is the pressure of circulating blood against the walls of blood vessels. Most of this pressure results from the heart pumping blood through the circulatory system. When used without qualification, the term "blood pressure" refers to the pressure in the large arteries.

The readings are always given in pairs, with the upper (systolic) value first, followed by the lower (diastolic) value. diastolic blood pressure of 88 mmHg. When your heart beats, it squeezes and pushes blood through your arteries to the rest of your body. This force creates pressure on those blood vessels, and that's your systolic blood pressure. A normal systolic pressure is below 120. A reading of 140 or more means you have high blood pressure.
