Draw Lewis structures for the fulminate ion including possible resonance forms.

Chemistry

Answer:

See explanation

Explanation:

The fulminate ion, CNO − , is a pseudohalic ion because its charge and reactivity are similar to those of the halogens. Due to the instability of the ion, fulminate salts are friction-sensitive explosives. The best known is mercury(II) fulminate, which has been used as a primary explosive in detonators(Wikipedia).

The most important contributing structure is the one in which the formal charges on carbon, nitrogen and oxygen are; -1, +1, -1 as shown in the image attached to this answer.

What is the molar mass of an element?
Vesnalui [34]

The answer is: the mass of 6.02 x 1023 representative particles of the element.

The base SI unit for molar mass is kg/mol, but chemist more use g/mol (gram per mole).

For example, molar mas of ammonia is 17.031 g/mol.

M(NH₃) = Ar(N) + 3 · Ar(H) · g/mol.

M(NH₃) = 14.007 + 3 · 1.008 · g/mol.

M(NH₃) = 17.031 g/mol.

The molar mass (M) is the mass of a given substance (in this example ammonia) divided by the amount of substance.

The two methods in the lab for measuring the volume of a geometric solid object are weighing it on the balance and measuring it
Yakvenalex [24]

Answer:

Measuring with a ruler and using final volume minus initial volume

Explanation:

You can measure the volume of a geometric object by measuring its sides with a ruler and calculating the volume according to the corresponding formula for each object. For example, for a rectangular prism it would be

volume=length*width*height

You can also measure the volume of an object by measuring how much water it displaces. To do this you have to fill a measuring cylinder with enough water for the object to be completely submerged and take note of the volume. Then, add the object and note again the volume of the water+object. The difference between both is the volume of the object.

Volume of the object= volume of water and object - volume of water

The advantage of the second method is that it can be used for objects with irregular shapes as long as they do not float.

how much energy must be released by 50.0 g of steam to decrease its temperature from 125.0 degrees Celsius to 100.0 degrees Cels
REY [17]

Answer:

5250 Joules

Explanation:

Mass = 50g

Initial Temperature = 125.0 degrees Celsius

Final Temperature =  100 degrees Celsius

Temperature change = Final - Initial = 100 - 125 = -25

Heat = ?

These quantities are related by the equation;

H = mCΔT

where c = specific hear capacity = 4.2 J/g°C

H = 50 * 4.2 *  (-25)

H = -5250 J (The negative sign is because heat is being released)
