Hund's rule tells us that 1) any orbital in a given subshell must first be occupied by a single electron before being occupied by a second electron and 2) the electrons in a singly occupied orbital all have the same spin.

Diagram I follows both 1 and 2; there are no prematurely-filled orbitals (boxes), and all the singly-filled 2p orbital have the same spin (the arrows are all pointing up). So, diagram I follows Hund's rule and is correct.

Diagram II violates 1: the first box in the 2p subshell is doubly filled while there's still a vacant orbital. That second electron in the first box should be in the third box and pointing upward for diagram II to be correct. Thus, diagram II violates Hund's rule and is incorrect.

Diagram III follows rule 1 but violates rule 2: While every 2p orbital is singly filled, they do not all have the same spin. In the second box, the arrow is pointing down while the arrows in the other two boxes are pointing up. Thus, diagram III violates Hund's rule and is incorrect.

So, of the diagrams given, II and III do not follow Hund's rule and thus are incorrect.

Consider a sample that is a mixture composed of biphenyl, benzoic acid, and benzyl alcohol. Predict the order of elution of the
Tems11 [23]

Answer:

biphenyl, benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid

Explanation:

Due to the nonpolar nature of cyclohexane, biphenyl will be the first solute to be eluted due to the presence of two phenyl rings. The second solute to be eluted will be benzyl alcohol due to the presence of OH group. This is because it has the ability to exhibit hydrogen bond with the silica column of the chromatography. Lastly, the benzoic acid will be the third solute to be eluted due to the presence of COOH group which is more polar than the OH group. Therefore, the order of elution of the components in the mixture is biphenyl, benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid.

How is filtration done?
What is the difference between residue and filtrate?
LiRa [457]

Answer:

residue is whatever remains after something else has been removed while filtrate is the liquid or solution that has passed through a filter, and which has been separated from the filtride.

filtration id done by placing a filter paper on the beaker or container then pour the filtride then let it settle and it will pass through and you will have the fitrate and residue

Write a balanced equation for the double-replacement neutralization reaction described, using the smallest possible integer coef
g100num [7]

Answer: The balanced chemical equation is given below.

Explanation:

Double-displacement reaction is defined as the reaction in which exchange of ions takes place. The general equation representing this reaction follows:

AB+CD\rightarrow CB+AD

The balanced chemical equation for the reaction of barium hydroxide and perchloric acid follows:

Ba(OH)_2(aq.)+2HClO_4(aq.)\rightarrow Ba(ClO_4)_2(aq.)+2H_2O(l)

By Stoichiometry of the reaction:

1 mole of barium hydroxide reacts with 2 moles of perchloric acid to produce 1 mole of barium chlorate and 2 moles of water molecule.

Hence, the balanced chemical equation is given above.
