The ideal width of a certain conveyor belt for a manufacturing plant is 50 in. Conveyor belts can vary from the ideal width by a

t most 7/32in. Which of the following represents the acceptable widths for the conveyor belt? Check all that apply.
x>=49 25/32
x<=50 7/32
49 25/32<=x<=50 7/32

<h3><u>Answer:</u></h3>

The answer is:

|x-50|\leq \dfrac{7}{32}

49\dfrac{25}{32}\leq x\leq 50\dfrac{7}{32}

<h3><u>Step-by-step explanation:</u></h3>

The ideal  width of a certain conveyor belt for a manufacturing plant is 50 in.

Conveyor belts can vary from the ideal width by at most 7/32 in.

i.e. the absolute change in the width has to be less than or equal to 7/32 in. and it can't exceed more than that.

That is if it will decrease than the  the acceptable width for the conveyor belt is represented by the expression;

|x-50|\leq \dfrac{7}{32}

Also on solving it we get:

\dfrac{-7}{32}\leq x-50\leq \dfrac{7}{32}\\\\\\50-\dfrac{7}{2}\leq x\leq 50+\dfrac{7}{2}\\\\49\dfrac{25}{32}\leq x\leq 50\dfrac{7}{32}

Hence, the correct choices are:

|x-50|\leq \dfrac{7}{32}

49\dfrac{25}{32}\leq x\leq 50\dfrac{7}{32}

How do you check? <br> -5r+-3=51
Varvara68 [4.7K]

-5r + (-3) = 51

Add 3 to both sides:

-5r = 54

Divide both sides by -5 to get r alone:

r = -10.8

To check this, plug in -10.8 into the equation: -5(-10.8) + (-3) = 51

54 + (-3) = 51

54 - 3 = 51

51 = 51

This statement is true, so the answer is correct.

Given the median line QR and trapezoid MNOP, what is the value of x? MN=17 QR=x+12 OP=5x-14
kari74 [83]
<u><em>Answer:</em></u>
x = 7
MN (first base) = 17 units
OP (second base) = 21 units
QR (median) = 19 units

<u><em>Explanation:</em></u>
In a trapezium, the length of the median is equal to half the sum of the two bases.

<u>From the given, we have:</u>
MN (first base) = 17 units
OP (second base) = 5x - 14 units
QR (median) = x + 12 units

<u>Applying the above rule:</u>
median = 0.5 (first base + second base)
x + 12 = 0.5 (17+5x-14)
2(x+12) = 17+5x-14
2x + 24 = 3 + 5x
24-3 = 5x-2x
21 = 3x
x = \frac{21}{3}
x = 7

<u>Based on the above, the lengths would be:</u>
MN (first base) = 17 units
OP (second base) = 5x - 14 = 5(7) - 14 = 21 units
QR (median) = x + 12 = 7 + 12 = 19 units

Hope this helps :)
