for this problem we see that we are starting below 0 and going up to one, all we have to do is solve for the distance between the two numbers, as shown

(-1/3) + 1/3 = 0

0 + 1 = 1

now to simplify, we just add the total amount of change between the two numbers

1/3 + 1 = 1 1/3

NOTE: this can be done by just adding the absolute value of each number if one is a negative number and one is a positive number, wich is basically what i did

-1/3 = |1/3|

1 = |1|

|1/3| + |1| = |1 1/3| or total amount of change

but if you are working with two positive or two negative numbers, then subtract the lesser of the two absolute values as so

-2 + x = -5

-2 = |2|

-5 = |5|

|5| - |2| = |3|

3 = amount of change

3 = x

-2 + -3 = -5
