According to Freud, personality develops through a series of psychosexual stages. During infancy, the psychosexual stage is called the oral stage. This stage is also known as hemitaxia. It is the first stage of he psychosexual development according to Freud. It the stage where the primary erogenous zone of an infant is its mouth. It starts from birth up to year 1. The infant would satisfy his cravings through the mouth by sucking and tasting.  Since at this stage the baby is completely dependent, the baby would develop comfort and trust by the oral stimulation he gets from his caretakers or the one responsible for him.
