In the early nineties When the research on solar system first started it was found out that the solar system has 9 planets which are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Pluto which is considered as the number 9 of the planets in the solar system has been removed in the year 2006 and labelled as a "dwarf planet'' hence, Neptune is considered as the farthest planet from the Sun.

The farther the planets are from the sun, the longer it will take them to orbit round the sun. For instance, it only takes around 87.97 days for mercury(first planet nearer to the sun) to orbit round the sun, while it takes the earth (third planet nearer to the sun) 365 1/4 days to orbit round the sun.
