A soccer player kicks a ball, giving it an initial velocity of 9.0 m/s in the positive x- direction. Because of the wet grass an

d dirt, the ball slows uniformly to 3.00 m/s when it has travelled 30.0 m. Determine the ball’s acceleration? Hint: Acceleration is a vector and direction must be specified (SLO 1)

Answer:

a= - 1.2 m/s²

Direction of a : in the negative x- direction

Explanation:

Because the ball moves with uniformly accelerated movement we apply the following formula:

vf²=v₀²+2*a*d Formula (1)

Where:

d:displacement in meters (m)

v₀: initial velocity in m/s

vf: final velocity in m/s

a: acceleration in m/s²

Known data

v₀ = 9.0 m/s

vf= 3.00 m/s

d = 30.0 m.

Problem development

We replace data in the formula (1) to calculate acceleration :

vf²=v₀²+2*a*d

(3)²= (9)² + (2* 30)*a

9=81+(60)*a

9-81=(60)*a

-72=  (60)*a

a= -72/60

a= - 1.2 m/s²

Direction of a : in the negative x- direction

A car is stopped at a red light. When the light turns green, the car accelerates until it reaches a final velocity of 45 m/s. It
tigry1 [53]

Answer:

270 m

Explanation:

We can find the distance travelled by the car by using the following suvat equation:

s=(\frac{u+v}{2})t

where

s is the distance travelled

u is the initial velocity

v is the final velocity

t is the time

For the car in this problem,

u = 0

v = 45 m/s

t = 12 s

Substituting into the equation, we find:

s=(\frac{0+45}{2})(12)=270 m

Which of the following actions would make a pulse travel faster along a stretched string? More than one answer may be correct. I
MaRussiya [10]

Answer:

Option d and e are correct.

Explanation:

The expression for velocity of pulse in a stretched string can be given as follows

v = \sqrt{\frac{T}{m} }

where T is tension in the string , m is mass of string per unit length.

Use of  lighter string of the same length, under the same tension  amounts to higher m so velocity will decrease. Hence option d is correct.

Similarly, v is directly  proportional to square root of tension. So if we increase tension , velocity also increases. So option e ) is correct.

Which statement is true about the element shown here? A) This element tends to gain electrons to become stable. B) This element
cestrela7 [59]

ITS C

This element tends to lose 2 electrons to become a 2+ ion, is the correct statement regarding the element calcium. Calcium has 2 electrons in its outer shell and it is easier to lose them than it is to gain enough to become stable. When stable it has 2 more protons than electrons forming a 2+ ion.
