Explanation: In the book, Rebecca there are three fully developed female characters. Mrs. De Winter, Rebecca, and Mrs. Danvers. The three women have many differences as well as a few similarities. Society plays a role into their characters, given the time period of this novel. This novel was published in a time period when women were expected to be very obedient wives and typically did not fall out of line. Society impacted each woman in this novel differently. Mrs. de Winter, Mrs. Danvers, and Rebecca are three very different characters in this novel. Rebecca was never spoken about in the first person. She is learned about through the narrator’s point of view, Mrs. de Winter. Rebecca is a very interesting character because nobody seems to really know the real her in full, yet she has the most impact on every character without them knowing.
