Shari and Ana are playing games at an arcade. Shari has $37.50 and is playing $0.50 games. Ana has $42.75 and is playing $0.75 g

ames. Sandor wants to know when Shari and Ana will have the same amount of money remaining. So he wrote and solved this equation.
Let x = number of games played.

Equation: 37.50 – .5x = 42.75 – .75x

Step 1: 37.50 – 1.25x = 42.75

Step 2: – 1.25x = 5.25

Step 3: – 4.2 = x

Sandor knows his answer is incorrect because a negative number of games cannot be played. What was Sandor’s mistake?
The variable x should represent the amount of money left.
The equation should have sums on both sides.
In step 1, he should have added .75x to both sides.
In step 3, he should have added 1.25x to both sides.

37.50-0.5x=42.75-0.75x\\37.50-0.5x+0.75x=42.75\\37.50-0.25x=42.75\\0.25x=42.75-37.50\\0.25x=42.75-37.50\\0.25x=5.25\\x=\frac{5.25}{0.25} \\x=21\\\\x=21 grams

Answer:

B. 64.9

Step-by-step explanation:

A graphing calculator or spreadsheet can fit these points with an exponential curve. An appropriate answer for x=14 is about 73.3.

_____

<em>Comment on the answer choices</em>

The closest answer that makes any sense is 64.9. Often these problems are worked by someone who uses inappropriate rounding of intermediate results. I haven't found the magic set of numbers to get 64.9. About the lowest I can get is 66.7, using 0.0037·e^(0.7x).

The elevation at ground level is 0 feet. An elevator starts 90 feet below ground level. After traveling for 15 seconds, the elev

The answer is -4 2/3

Explanation : The elevator is at 0, and went below ground level 90 feet, that would be -90, then it went up 20 feet, which would be -90 + 20 = -70

-70 ft / 15sec = - 4 2/3

I am not sure about the ground level and negative difference but that it is what I was taught. Below ground level is negative and above is positive. Therefore the elevator traveled up and it traveled -4 2/3 per second.
It so either 4 2/3 or - 4 2/3 but pretty sure it is - 4 2/3.
