If this is a system of equations then:
Multiply 5x-y=3 by -2
=> -10x+2y=-6
Now you sum the equations:
10x-10x+7y+2y=-3-6
=> 9y=-9
Then just divide by 9: y=-1
Now to get x, choose one of the equations and use the value we got from y:
5x-(-1)=3 => 5x+1=3 => 5x=3-1
=> 5x=2
=> x=2/5
(x,y)=(2/5, -1)
6x + 7 = 8x - 17
6x- 8x = -17 - 7
-2x = -24 • divide both sides by -2
Thefore x = 12
In the form of algebra substitution is the method used in simultaneous equations.
E.g y=2x+5 and y=5x-1
Solve for x and y
Since we know two examples of what y is, we can substitute one y in replacement of the other to get.
2x+5=5x-1 then we solve for x to get:
x = 2 sub this back in to get y = 2(2) +5
y = 9
I’m not to sure if their should’ve been a picture included or not but if you’re talking about a table - table then just wrong the line diagonal.
