Critical thinking involves questioning and evaluating information. Critical and creative thinking both contribute to our ability to solve problems in a variety of contexts. Evaluating information is a complex, but essential, process. You can use the CRAAP test to help determine if sources and information are reliable.

The key critical thinking skills are: analysis, interpretation, inference, explanation, self-regulation, open-mindedness, and problem-solving.

Critical thinking skills are important because they enable students “to deal effectively with social, scientific, and practical problems” (Shakirova, 2007, p. 42). Simply put, students who are able to think critically are able to solve problems effectively. Merely having knowledge or information is not enough.

Hope it helps

A sample of 87.6 g of carbon is reacted with 136 g of
Vadim26 [7]

Answer:

A. fluorine, 1.79 moles

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of carbon  = 87.7g

Mass of fluorine gas = 136g

Unknown:

The limiting reactant and the maximum amount of moles of carbon tetrafluoride that can be produced = ?

Solution:

   Equation of the reaction:

             C    +   2F₂ →   CF₄

let us find the number of the moles the given species;

  Number of moles = \frac{mass}{molar mass}

  C;   molar mass = 12;

            Number of moles  = \frac{87.7}{12}   = 7.31moles

F;  molar mass  = 2(19)  = 38g/mol

             Number of moles  = \frac{136}{38}   = 3.58moles

So;

   From the give reaction:

          1 mole of C requires 2 moles of F₂

         7.31 moles of C will then require 2 x 7.31 moles of F₂ = 14.62moles

But we have 3.58 moles of the F₂;

  Therefore, the reactant in short supply is F₂ and it is the limiting reactant;

So;

       2 moles of F₂ will produce mole of CF₄

       3.58 moles of F₂ will then produce \frac{3.58}{2} = 1.79moles of CF₄

A 1.00 g sample of octane (C8H18) is burned in a bomb calorimeter with a heat capacity of 837J∘C that holds 1200. g of water at
lubasha [3.4K]

Answer:

The heat of combustion for 1.00 mol of octane is -5485.7 kJ/mol

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

Mass of octane = 1.00 grams

Heat capacity of calorimeter = 837 J/°C

Mass of water = 1200 grams

Temperature of water = 25.0°C

Final temperature : 33.2 °C

Step 2: Calculate heat absorbed by the calorimeter

q = c*ΔT

⇒ with c = the heat capacity of the calorimeter = 837 J/°C

⇒ with ΔT = The change of temperature = T2 - T1 = 33.2 - 25.0 : 8.2 °C

q = 837 * 8.2 = 6863.4 J

Step 3: Calculate heat absorbed by the water

q = m*c*ΔT

⇒ m = the mass of the water = 1200 grams

⇒ c = the specific heat of water = 4.184 J/g°C

⇒ ΔT = The change in temperature = T2 - T1 = 33.2 - 25  = 8.2 °C

q = 1200 * 4.184 * 8.2 =  41170.56 J

Step 4: Calculate the total heat

qcalorimeter + qwater = 6863.4 + 41170. 56 = 48033.96 J  = 48 kJ

Since this is an exothermic reaction, there is heat released. q is positive but ΔH is negative.

Step 5: Calculate moles of octane

Moles octane = 1.00 gram / 114.23 g/mol

Moles octane = 0.00875 moles

Step 6: Calculate heat combustion for 1.00 mol of octane

ΔH = -48 kJ / 0.00875 moles

ΔH = -5485.7 kJ/mol

The heat of combustion for 1.00 mol of octane is -5485.7 kJ/mol

A box of jello has a mass of 250 g. How many boxes must be bought to have 1 Kg of jello? *
zhuklara [117]

Answer:

Number of boxes = 4

Explanation:

Given:

Mass of one box of jello = 250 grams

Total quantity want to purchase = 1 kg = 1 × 1,000 gram = 1,000 grams

Find:

Number of boxes in 1,000 grams = ?

Computation:

Number of boxes = Total quantity want to purchase / Mass of one box of jello

Number of boxes = 1,000 / 250

Number of boxes = 4

Therefore, 4 boxes of jello must be purchase to get 1 kg of Jello.
