A hydrauliic jack is rated at 5000 pound capacity. The area of the large piston on the jack is 4.45 Square inches. Calculate the
sergeinik [125]

Answer:

1123.6 pounds/ square inch.

Explanation:

Fluid pressure is the ratio of force or weight applied by the fluid per unit area.

i.e Fluid pressure = \frac{weight}{area}

The maximum load of the jack is obtained at its maximum capacity = 5000 pounds

Area of the large piston on the jack = 4.45 square inches

Thus,

Fluid pressure = \frac{5000}{4.45}

                        = 1123.5955

Fluid pressure = 1123.6 pounds/ square inch

Thu, the fluid pressure in the jack at maximum load is 1123.6 pounds/ square inch.

A 2-mm-diameter electrical wire is insulated by a 2-mm-thick rubberized sheath (k = 0.13 W/m ? K), and the wire/sheath interface
Svet_ta [14]

Question

A 2-mm-diameter electrical wire is insulated by a 2-mm-thick rubberized sheath (k = 0.13 W/m.K), and the wire/sheath interface is characterized by a thermal contact resistance of Rtc = 3E-4m².K/W. The convection heat transfer coefficient at the outer surface of the sheath is 10 W/m²K, and the temperature of the ambient air is 20°C.

If the temperature of the insulation may not exceed 50°C, what is the maximum allowable electrical power that may be dissipated per unit length of the conductor? What is the critical radius of the insulation?

Answer:

a. 4.52W/m

b. 13mm

Explanation:

Given

Diameter of electrical wire = 2mm

Wire Thickness = 2-mm

Thermal Conductivity of Rubberized sheath (k = 0.13 W/m.K)

Thermal contact resistance = 3E-4m².K/W

Convection heat transfer coefficient at the outer surface of the sheath = 10 W/m²K,

Temperature of the ambient air = 20°C.

Maximum Allowable Sheet Temperature = 50°C.

From the thermal circuit (See attachment), we my write

E'q = q' = (Tin,i - T∞)/(R'cond + R'conv)

= (Tin,i - T∞)/(Ln (r in,o / r in,i)/2πk + (1/(2πr in,o h)))

Where r in,i = D/2

= 2mm/2

= 1 mm

= 0.001m

r in,o = r in,i + t = 0.003m

T in, i = Tmax = 50°C

Hence

q' = (50 - 20)/[(Ln (0.003/0.001)/(2π * 0.13) + 1/(2π * 0.003 * 10)]

= 30/[(Ln3/0.26π) + 1/0.06π)]

= 30/[(1.34) + 5.30)]

= 30/6.64

= 4.52W/m

The critical radius is unaffected by the constant resistance.

Hence

Critical Radius = k/h

= 0.13/10

= 0.013m

= 13mm

In an international film festival, a penal of 11 judges is formed to judge the best film. At
Julli [10]

Answer:

International Film Festival

Judging the best best film:

a. The probability that out of five judges (random sample),  three are in favor of film FA is:

= 33%.

b. The demerits of classical probability are:

1. Classical probability can only be used with events that have definite numbers of possible outcomes.

2. Classical probability can only handle events where each outcome is equally likely.

3. Classical probability is based on the assumption of linear relationship (which is not always true in real life) between the latent variable and observed scores.

Explanation:

a) Number of judges = 11

Number of judges in favor of FA film = 6

Number of judges in favor of FB film = 5

Probability of judges in favor of FA film = 6/11

Probability of judges in favor of FB film = 5/11

Random sample of judges = 5

Probability that out of five judges, three are in favor of film FA = 3/5 * 6/11

= 18/55

= 33%

b) Classical probability is the simple probability showing that each event has equal chance of happening.  It can be contrasted with empirical probability that is obtained from experiments.
