A electrolytic cell is set up as was done in this experiment but with a different metal. An average current of 150.1 mA is deliv

ered for 17 minutes and 42 seconds. The cathode gains 0.1641 g in mass. If there are three moles of electrons transferred per mole of the metal, what is the molar mass of the metal?

Answer:

88.614 gm/mol

Explanation:

amount of charge passed through the cell

= 150.1×10^-3 A×17.42 min× 60 = 156.88C = 156.88/96500 C/F

=1.62×10^-3 F

molar mass of the metal = 0.1641 gm/3mole metal/F × 1.62×10^-3 F =88.614 gm/mol

A student wants to prepare a solution of cobalt(II) fluoride with a known molarity.
swat32

Answer:

\large \boxed{\text{1.52 g}}

Explanation:

1. Calculate the moles of CoF₂ needed

n = \text{0.100 L} \times \dfrac{\text{0.157 mol}}{\text{1 L}}  = \text{0.0157 mol}

2. Calculate the mass of CoF₂

m = \text{0.0157 mol} \times \dfrac{\text{96.93 g}}{\text{1 mol}}  = \text{1.52 g}\\\\\text{ The student must measure out $\large \boxed{\textbf{1.52 g}}$ of cobalt(II) fluoride}

(there are 3 quetions) how is heat being transfered in:
myrzilka [38]

Answer:

Since I already answered the first two I will tell you the third one!

In general, the radiation heat transfer from one surface to another is the radiation leaving the first surface for the other minus that arriving from the second surface. Radiation heat transfer is mediated by electromagnetic radiation, known as thermal radiation, that arises due to the temperature of a body.

What is the melting point of a solution in which 2.5 grams of sodium chloride is added to 230 mL of water?
Lemur [1.5K]
To get the melting point of a solution so, we will use this formula:

ΔT = - mKf

when:

m is molality of the solution

Kf is cryoscopic constant  of water  = 1.86 C/m

and ΔT is the change in melting point (T2 - 0 °C)

so, now we need to calculate the molality to substitute:

when the molality = moles NaCl / Kg of water

 and when moles NaCl  = mass / molar mass

                                       = 2.5 g / 58 g/mol

                                       = 0.043 mol
∴ Kg water = volume *density /1000

                   = 230 mL * 1 g/mL / 1000

                  = 0.23 Kg
∴ molality = 0.043 / 0.23 =0.187 M

by substitution:

T2-0°C = - 0.187 * 1.86

∴T2 = - 0.348 °C
