Answer:

w = x = 36

Step-by-step explanation:

In the largest triangle, the longest side is x

The shortest side = 18

In the smaller triangle the longest side is 6

The shortest side is 3

You can set up a ratio

x/18 = 6/3                             Divide the right side by 3

x/18 = 2                                Multiply both sides by 18

18 *x / 18 = 2 * 18

x = 36

I think the answer is 6. The reason I think the answer is 6, is because if you divide 18 and 3, your answer will be 6. Keep in mind I might be wrong. Maybe 3 is correct, not quite sure. Maybe try both. Sorry, this probably wasn’t much help.

-3,6,-9,12,-15 which of the following represents the general term for the sequence give?
Mademuasel [1]

The general term for the sequence a_{n}=(-1)^{n} 3 n

<h3><u>Solution:</u></h3>

Given sequence is -3, 6, -9, 12, -15

We have to find the general term of sequence

The terms in the sequence are found out by using the recursive definition:

a_{n}=(-1)^{n} 3 n

Let us use this definition to find out the terms and check if it matches our given sequence

\begin{array}{l}{\text { For } n=1:-(-1)^{n} 3 n=(-1)^{1} \times 3 \times 1=-3} \\\\ {\text { For } n=2:-(-1)^{n} 3 n=(-1)^{2} \times 3 \times 2=1 \times 6=6} \\\\ {\text { For } n=3:-(-1)^{n} 3 n=(-1)^{3} \times 3 \times 3=-1 \times 9=-9} \\\\ {\text { For } n=4:-(-1)^{n} 3 n=(-1)^{4} \times 3 \times 4=1 \times 12=12} \\\\ {\text { For } n=5:-(-1)^{n} 3 n=(-1)^{5} \times 3 \times 5=-1 \times 15=-15}\end{array}

Thus the general term is given by a_{n}=(-1)^{n} 3 n

Given the parent function of f(x) = x4, what change will occur when the function is changed to f(−2x)?
Nikitich [7]

Answer:

Graph will open same way and is narrower.

Step-by-step explanation

If: f(x)= x^4

f(-2x)= (-2x)^4

Negative sign usually flips the graph and make it open to the opposite direction.  In this case since the function is to the 4th degree and the negative sign is included. The negative is basically ignored.

The term in front of x (a) determines how wide the graph opens. The bigger the a value the faster the slope increases so the narrower the graph opens.

Think if the slope is 4 vs 1/4.

Hope this helps

How to tell if two lines are perpendicular
katrin [286]

ANSWER

The two lines are perpendicular if m_1 \times m_2 =  - 1

EXPLANATION

Given two lines:

y=m_1x+b_1

and

y=m_2x+b_2

We can tell wether these two lines are perpendicular to each other using their slopes.

If the product of their slopes is -1, the then the two line are perpendicular.

For example:

The line

y = 2x + 6

has slope

m_1= 2

and the line

y =  -  \frac{1}{2} x + 1

has slope

m_2 =  -  \frac{1}{2}

The product of the two slopes is

m_1 \times m_2 = 2 \times  -  \frac{1}{2}

This implies that:

m_1 \times m_2 =  - 1

Therefore the two lines are perpendicular.
