Answer:

Biological evolution

Explanation:

Biological evolution is defined as the formation of complex organisms from single ancestral type over a large time period. Evolution believes that all living organisms descended from a common ancestor but not without modification.

There are several evidence to support the theory of evolution including morphological evidence, paleontological evidence, biochemical evidence, among others.

The similarity in the structure and components of DNA of all living organisms is one of the evidence pointing to the fact that living organisms might truly have been from a common ancestor. In addition, all living organisms tend to use ATP largely as their source of energy, giving further credence to evolution theory.

The mixture of amino acids resulting from acid hydrolysis of a protein is separated and quantitated by:_______.
VladimirAG [237]

Answer:

1. B & D

Explanation:

Ion exchange chromatography which helps in the separation of charged molecules such as amino acids based on their affinity to the ion exchanger is a useful method employed in the separation of amino acids. High-performance liquid chromatography is another medium that employs an adsorbent material that is made to pass through a solvent that would eventually result in the separation of the different components of the substance being measured.

Quantitation of the amino acids beyond 10nmol is done using the ninhydrin reaction which gives off different colours depending on the amount of the amino acid. Phenyl isothiocyanate is used in the evaluation of secondary amines and is a reagent that is added to the solid phase in the HPLC test.

(b) The antibiotic streptomycin inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria. If this antibiotic is added to a culture of animal cells
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

Mitochondrial ribosomes are similar to the prokaryotic ribosomes since mitochondria evolved by endosymbiosis. So, antibiotics can affect protein synthesis in mitochondria.

Explanation:

Streptomycin is an antibiotic that controls bacterial growth by binding to the small ribosomal subunit (the 30S) of bacteria. Thereby, this antibiotic interferes with protein synthesis and causes misreading of mRNA. Mitochondria were evolved when an anaerobic prokaryote engulfed an aerobic prokaryote which in turn became symbiotic later and lost the ability to live freely.

The ribosomes of mitochondria are similar to the bacterial ribosomes and are inhibited by the presence of streptomycin. Therefore, streptomycin was directly able to inhibit the protein synthesis in mitochondria while not affecting the same process in the cytosol of the cell.

How do lipids make ATP?
slamgirl [31]
Same way glucose does. Lipids enter cells through channels similar to glucose ones, but designated for lipids instead of carbohydrates. Then lipase splits them into separate parts (fatty acids & glycerol I think). The glycerol can either be used to make pyruvic acid and the energy of breaking its bonds can be used to make ATP, or it can go to making glucose, which is stored for later use.

Which trait exhibits typical dominant/recessive inheritance in humans?
mixas84 [53]
There's a bunch of examples.
For example, hairlines. A widow's peak is a dominant trait over a straigh hairline.

Or dominant hand type. Right hands are dominated over left hands.

Or hair types. Curly hair dominates straight hair.

If you google it, you'll get a lot more examples.
