The Andromeda galaxy is the closest major galaxy to our own. Andromeda shows a distinct blue-shift of light when we analyze it.
saul85 [17]
At the present time, the only way we know of that light can get shifted
toward the blue end of the spectrum is the Doppler effect ... wavelengths
appear shorter than they should be when the source is moving toward us.

IF that's true in the case of the Andromeda galaxy, it means the galaxy is
moving toward us.

We use the same reasoning to conclude that all the galaxies whose light is red-shifted are moving away from us.  That includes the vast majority of all galaxies that we can see, and it strongly supports the theory of the big bang
and the expanding universe.

If somebody ever comes along and discovers a DIFFERENT way that light
can get shifted to new, longer or shorter wavelengths, then pretty much all
of modern Cosmology will be out the window.  There's a lot riding on the
Doppler effect !

Consider the two electron arrangements for neutral atoms a and b. Are atoms a and b the same element? a - 1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s1 b -
Agata [3.3K]

The two neutral atoms A and B have the same number of electrons and atomic number 11. So, the two elements are said to be same.

The electronic configuration of the element is the arrangement of the electrons in the atom of the element in energy levels, orbitals around the nucleus.

The electrons in the atoms of the element with lowest energy are written first before those with higher energy levels. Thus, the electronic configuration shows the electrons in the atoms of the element arranged in order of increasing energies.

The electronic configuration of atoms are given as

A = 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s¹

B = 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 5s¹

The number of electrons in both the elements is 11. Therefore, their atomic number is also the same i.e, 11. So, both the elements are the same.

At a given instant, the force on an electron is in the +z-direction (out of the page), which the electron is moving in the +x-di
Hitman42 [59]

Answer:

The direction of the B-field is in the +y-direction.

Explanation:

The corresponding formula is

F_B = qv\times B

This means, we should use right-hand rule.

Our index finger is pointed towards +x-direction (direction of velocity),

our middle finger should point towards the direction of the B-field,

and our thumb should point towards the +z-direction (direction of the force).

Since our middle finger in this situation points towards +y-direction, the B-field should be in +y-direction.

\^{x} \times \^{y} = \^{z}
