8g of aqueous Sodium Hydroxide reacts with 4g of aqueous Aluminum Chloride to produce aqueous Sodium Chloride and solid Aluminum

Hydroxide. Balance the equation and give the limiting and excess reactants.
Chemistry

Answer:

The limiting reactant is AlCl₃ and the excess reactant is NaOH.

Explanation:

  • The balanced equation for the mentioned reaction is:

3NaOH(aq) + AlCl₃(aq) → 3NaCl(aq) + Al(OH)₃(s)↓,

It is clear that 3.0 moles of NaOH(aq) react with 1.0 mole of AlCl₃(aq) to produce 3.0 moles of NaCl(aq) and 1.0 mole of Al(OH)₃(s).

  • Firstly, we need to calculate the no. of moles of (8.0 g) of NaOH and (4.0 g) of AlCl₃:

no. of moles of NaOH = mass/molar mass = (8.0 g)/(40.0 g/mol) = 0.2 mol.

no. of moles of AlCl₃ = mass/molar mass = (4.0 g)/(133.34 g/mol) = 0.03 mol.

  • From stichiometry; NaOH reacts with AlCl₃ with (3: 1) molar ratio.

∴ 0.09 mol of NaOH (the remaining 1.1 mol is in excess) reacts completely with 0.03 mol of AlCl₃.

  • So,

the limiting reactant is AlCl₃ and the excess reactant is NaOH.

14. Calculate the energy of a wave with the wavelength of 4.80 x 105 nm. What type of radiation is
sveta [45]

Answer:

4.1 * 10^-22 J

The wave belongs to the infra red portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Explanation:

From the formula;

E = hc/λ

We know that;

h= plank's constant = 6.6 * 10^-34 Js

c= speed of light = 3 * 10^8 m/s

λ = wavelength of the wave = 4.80 x 10^5 nm or 4.80 x 10^-4 m

Hence;

E= 6.6 * 10^-34 * 3 * 10^8/ 4.80 x 10^-4

E= 4.1 * 10^-22 J

The wave belongs to the infra red portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Hydrochloric acid reacts faster with powdered zinc than with an equal mass of zinc strips because the greater the surface area o
inysia [295]

Answer:

increases the frequency of particle collisions

Explanation:

One factor upon which the rate of reaction depends is the surface area of reactants.

According to the collision theory, reactions occur when reactant particles having the required (activation) energy collide with each other, this collision is inelastic. However, collision of particles having energies less than the activation energy results in elastic collisions and no chemical reaction.

The more the exposed surface area of reactants, the greater the number of particles that come into contact with each other and the more the chances of frequent effective collisions that lead to reaction.

Thus, powdered zinc reacts faster with hydrochloric acid than zinc strips

How many grams of C6H6O3 will react with 97.0grams of O2?

C6H6O3+3O2 ===> 6CO+3H2O
likoan [24]

Answer:

127.3 g

Explanation:

Data Given

mass of O₂= 97 g

mass of C₆H₆O₃ = ?

Reaction Given:

                C₆H₆O₃ + 3O₂ -------->  6CO + 3H₂O

Solution:

First find the mass of C₆H₆O₃ from the reaction that it combine with how many grams of oxygen (O₂).

Look at the balanced reaction

                  C₆H₆O₃  +   3O₂       -------->  6CO + 3H₂O

                    1 mol        3 mol

So 1 mole of C₆H₆O₃ combine with 3 moles of O₂

Now

convert the moles into mass for which we have to know molar mass of C₆H₆O₃ and O₂

Molar mass of C₆H₆O₃

Molar mass of C₆H₆O₃ = 6(12) + 6(1) +3(16) = 72 + 6 + 48

Molar mass of C₆H₆O₃ = 126 g/mol

mass of C₆H₆O₃

                 mass in grams = no. of moles x molar mass

                 mass of C₆H₆O₃ = 1 mol x 126 g/mol

                 mass of C₆H₆O₃ = 126 g

Molar mass of O₂ = 2(16)

Molar mass of O₂= 32 g/mol

mass of O₂

                mass in grams = no. of moles x molar mass

                mass of O₂ = 3 mol x 32 g/mol

                 mass of O₂ = 96 g

So,

96 g of O₂ combine with 126 g of C₆H₆O₃ then how many grams of C₆H₆O₃ will combine with 97.0grams of O2

Apply unity Formula

                      96 g of O₂ ≅ 126 g of C₆H₆O₃

                      97 g of O₂ ≅  X g of C₆H₆O₃

By cross multiplication

                    X g of O₂ = 126 g x 97 g / 96 g

                   X g  of O₂ = 127.3 g

127.3 g of C₆H₆O₃ will combine with 97 g of O₂

So

mass of C₆H₆O =  127.3 g
