Motivation refers to the process that guides maintain a goal-oriented attitude, initiates, and is influenced by a positive environment. Motivation can be extrinsic or intrinsic.

The difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation are:

  • Intrinsic motivation refers to something that drives the person from within, such as pride, self-respect, or self-expression. the emotions experienced by the learner are freedom, enjoyment, and relaxation.

  • Extrinsic motivation refers to the motivation obtained from external sources like promotion, paycheck, or gaining benefits for participating. The extrinsic pressure can bring up the tension and pressure. The rewards of extrinsic motivation are promotion or materialistic things.

Thus, intrinsic motivation is the motivation coming from the learner's interest, whereas extrinsic is the motivation derived from an external source.
