The main difference is in the presence of a carbon atom; organic compoundswill contain a carbon atom (and often a hydrogen atom, to form hydrocarbons), while almost allinorganic compounds do not contain either of those two atoms. While mostinorganic compounds do not contain carbon, there are a few that do.

An organic compound is any member of a large class of gaseous, liquid, or solid chemical compounds whose molecules contain carbon

Inorganic compounds can be defined as any compound that is not organic compound. Some simple compounds which contain carbon are usually considered inorganic. These include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, carbonates, cyanides, cyanates, carbides, and thiocyanates.

A compound is made up of 80.0 % C and 20.0 % H. Its molar mass is 30.0 g. What is its molecular formula?
Greeley [361]

Answer:

Molecular formula = C₂H₆

Explanation:

Given data:

Percentage of hydrogen = 20.0 %

Percentage of carbon = 80.0 %

Molar mass = 30.0 g

Empirical formula = ?

Solution:

Number of gram atoms of H = 20 / 1.01 = 19.8

Number of gram atoms of C = 80 /12 = 6.7

Atomic ratio:

            C              :           H

         6.7/6.7        :        19.8/6.7

            1               :           3

C : H = 1 : 3

Empirical formula is CH₃.

Molecular formula:

Molecular formula = n (empirical formula)

n = molar mass of compound / empirical formula mass

Empirical formula = CH₃ = 12×1 +3×1.01 = 15.03 g/mol

n = 30 g/mol / 15.03 g/mol

n = 2

Molecular formula = n (empirical formula)

Molecular formula = 2 (CH₃)

Molecular formula = C₂H₆

The nutrition label on the back of a package of hotdogs (purchased within the US) indicates that one hotdog contains 100 calorie
Olenka [21]

Answer:

C. 100

Explanation:

Biochemical researches and studies have found out that an average health hotdog has a calorie of between 100 and 150 which is usually dependent on the additives.

Since the nutrition label on the back of a package of hotdogs (purchased within the US) indicates that one hotdog contains 100 calories then it truly contains such amount of calories. The standard number of calories present in a hotdog is independent of the amount eaten by individuals.
