The atmosphere is divided into several layers. The atmosphere refers to the thin layer of air that lies above the earth crust. The following describes the layers of the atmosphere.

• The troposphere refers to the layer where weather changes largely occur and clouds form.
• The stratosphere has an average temperature of about 270 K (−3°C or 26.6°F). The ozone layer is found in the stratosphere.
• The temperature in he mesosphere is about  − 85°C (− 120°F).
• The thermosphere has a temperature of  200° C (360° F). The ionosphere is found within the thermosphere.
