A cylinder with a piston holds 3.50 moles of a diatomic gas. The gas in the cylinder absorbs 875 J of energy due to the higher t

emperature of the environment. At the same time, the cylinder expands to a larger volume, doing 112 J of work on the environment. (a) What is the change in internal energy of the gas in the cylinder (in J)

The change in the internal energy of the gas in the cylinder is 763 J

From the first law of thermodynamics, the change in internal energy(U) of a system is equivalent to the difference between net heat transfer(Q) into the system and the net work done(W) on the system

The equation for the change in the internal energy from the first law of thermodynamics is:

ΔU = ΔQ - ΔW

ΔU = 875 J - 112 J

ΔU = 763 J

What is the concentration of H3O+ ions in saliva if [OH-] = 4.22 x 10-10 M? Provide the pH and the classification of this sample
OLEGan [10]

pH=4.625

The classification of this sample of saliva : acid

<h3>Further explanation</h3>

The water equilibrium constant (Kw) is the product of concentration

the ions:

Kw = [H₃O⁺] [OH⁻]

Kw value at 25° C = 10⁻¹⁴

It is known [OH-] =  4.22 x 10⁻¹⁰ M

then the concentration of H₃O⁺:

\tt 10^{-14}=4.22\times 10^{-10}\times [H_3O^+]\\\\(H_3O^+]=\dfrac{10^{-14}}{4.22\times 10^{-10}}=2.37\times 10^{-5}

pH=-log[H₃O⁺]\tt pH=5-log~2.37=4.625

Saliva⇒acid(pH<7)

II.  CH₃-CH₂-OH                    = 46. ethanol

III. CH₃-COO-CH₂-CH₂-CH₃ = 47. propyl ethanoate

IV. H-O-CH₂-CH₂-CH₃         = 48. propan-1-ol

V.  H-COO-CH₃                    = 51. methyl methanoate

VI. CH₃-COOH                      = 50. ethanoic acid

2. Precursors

52. methyl propionate  ⇒ methanol + propanoic acid

53.   ethyl methanoate ⇒    ethanol + methanoic acid

In general, the more _ a metal has, the stronger its metallic bonds will be because...
Nuetrik [128]
In general, The more valence electrons a metal has, the stronger its metallic bonds will be because Boron is a metalloid and is ionically bonded.it is too electronegative to release its valence electrons for metallic bonding.As a result, their valence electrons feel a stronger pull from the nucleus (a greater effective nuclear charge) and are less easily released for metallic bonding.
