In this first essay, write to describe yourself as a writer and reader. When writing to describe yourself, keep the following ti

ps in mind:
(1) Use vivid words that appeal to your audience’s five senses in your description. Your description helps your audience to see, hear, feel, touch, and taste what you are trying to describe.
(2) Use actual and specific examples to support your ideas. After identifying your audience and purpose of writing, you will then choose the examples that your audience can relate to and understand. (By the way, Prof. Giedd is not your audience. I read and grade your essays; you don’t have to write to convince me.)
(3) Have a clear message in your writing that you want your audience to remember. This message will be your focus. Express this focus in a well stated sentence. This sentence will be your thesis.
In this 1200+ words, cite at least three references from our textbook or other outside sources. Be sure to provide a Works Cited page at the end of your essay. Consult the MLA handout in the Modules if you are not sure what to do. To ensure a satisfactory grade, your essay must be logically organized, free of grammatical errors, composed in sophisticated sentence structure, and be supported with relevant and sufficient evidence. See the grading rubric in this assignment on Canvas for further information on how your essay will be graded.
In the introduction of your essay, open it with a hook. Here’s another video for ideas on a hook. Read attention grabber. Think about how the writers of the essays and short stories in the textbook we read engage you. What can you do to attract your reader at the beginning of your essay? End your introduction with a clearly defined thesis statement which you will write to develop.
In the body of development, write to develop your thesis.
In the conclusion, do not summarize what you have previously stated. Instead, reflect on or respond to your thesis statement. What can your reader learn from your story?

She searched among the stacks and on the shelves.
Llana [10]

The answer is "stacks." That is the object of the phrase, and since a person is searching for something ON the shelf, they aren't searching for the shelf itself.
