In a game of pool, the cue ball moves at a speed of 2 m/s toward the eight ball. When the cue ball hits the eight ball, the cue

ball bounces off with a speed of 0.8 m/s at an angle of 20°, as shown in the diagram below. Both balls have a mass of 0.6 kg.
a. What is the momentum of the system before the collision? (Write it in component form.) (1 point)

b. What is the momentum of the system after the collision? (1 point)

c. Write the velocity of the cue ball after the collision in component form. (1 point)

d. What is the x-component of the velocity of the eight ball after the collision? (2 points)

e. What is the y-component of the velocity of the eight ball after the collision? (2 points)

f. At what angle does the eight ball travel after the collision? (2 points)

g. What is the magnitude of the eight ball's velocity after the collision? (1 point)

Will a seismic wave traveling through a solid go slower or faster than a seismic wave traveling through a liquid? Why?
Snezhnost [94]
You can't answer this question because you aren't giving the specific type of seismic waves. There is an s-wave a p-wave and an l-wave. Those are the basic waves. An S-wave cannot travel through a liquid at all. So, obviously it travels slower than any other seismic wave.

<span>It would travel faster because their speed depends on the density and composition of material that they pass through.</span>

After landing on an unfamiliar planet, a space explorer constructs a simple pendulum of length 53.0 cm . The explorer finds that
larisa86 [58]

Answer:

12.4 m/s²

Explanation:

L = length of the simple pendulum = 53 cm = 0.53 m

n = Number of full swing cycles = 99.0

t = Total time taken = 128 s

T = Time period of the pendulum

g = magnitude of gravitational acceleration on the planet

Time period of the pendulum is given as

T = \frac{t}{n}

T = \frac{128}{99}

T = 1.3 sec

Time period of the pendulum is also given as

T = 2\pi \sqrt{\frac{L}{g}}

1.3 = 2(3.14) \sqrt{\frac{0.53}{g}}

g = 12.4 m/s²
