In the laboratory you dilute 2.49 ml of a concentrated 6.00 m hydrochloric acid solution to a total volume of 50.0 ml. what is t
Marizza181 [45]
Equation: M1V1 = M2V2

Where M = concentration & V = volume

Step 1: Write down what is given and what you are trying to find

Given: M1 = 6.00M, V1 = 2.49mL, and V2 = 50.0mL
Find: M2

Step 2: Plug in the values into the equation

M1V1 = M2V2
(6.00M)(2.49mL) = (M2)(50.0mL)

Step 3: Isolate the variable (Divide both sides by 50.0mL so M2 is by itself)

(6.00M)(2.49mL) / (50.0mL) = M2

Answer: M2 = 0.30M

The value of ksp for silver sulfide, ag2s, is 8.00×10−51. calculate the solubility of ag2s in grams per liter.
Ivanshal [37]
When Ag₂S dissolves, it dissociates as follows;
Ag₂S ---> 2Ag⁺ + S²⁻
First we need to calculate molar solubility which gives the number of moles dissolved in 1 L of solution.
If molar solubility of Ag₂S is y, then molar solubility of Ag²⁺ and S²⁻ is 2y and y respectively.
ksp gives the solubility constant
ksp = [Ag⁺]²[S²⁻]
ksp = [2y]²[y]
4y³ = 8.00 x 10⁻⁵¹
y³ = 2 x 10⁻⁵¹
y = 1.26 x 10⁻¹⁷ mol/L
molar mass = 247.8 g/mol
solubility of Ag₂S = 1.26 x 10⁻¹⁷ mol/L x 247.8 g/mol = 3.12 x 10⁻¹⁵ g/L
Solubility of Ag₂S = 3.12 x 10⁻¹⁵ g/L

What is the first step in balancing a redox reaction by the half-reaction method?
Oksi-84 [34.3K]
First step is to balance the amount of atoms on each side

So for example if my equation that I have to balance is : Br2 -> Br-

First thing I would have to do would be :
Br2 -> 2Br-

Then I would have to balance the charges on both sides. So because there is a -2 charge on the right side I will have to add a -2 charge onto the right side as well. I would do this by :
Br2 + 2e- -> 2Br-

And now you can see the amount of atoms and the charges are balanced... So your overall reaction is now balanced too.
