For a Valentine's Day dance, tickets for couples cost $12 and tickets for individuals cost $8. Suppose 250 students attended the

dance, and $1580 was collected from ticket sales. How many of each type of ticket was sold?
PLEASE DO THIS IN ELIMINATION OR GRAPHING METHOD (NOT substitution method, as I already did it like this)

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's imagine if all the tickets were for individuals

The cost would be 250 x $8 = $2000
That is $420 higher than the actual cost.

The difference between a ticket for couples and a ticket for individuals is $4

Then, we can conclude that there are 420 : 4 = 105 couple tickets that were sold.

And, 40 individual tickets that were sold

The reason why we have 420:4 is because at the start, we assume every ticket was individuals. On the process, we replace one individual ticket by a couple ticket, keep replacing until the gap is exactly 420.

Hope this helps :)

Answer: 105 couple tickets and 40 individual tickets

For this I will use the "Graphing Method"

     First, we need to set up two equations.

-> Let x be the number of couple tickets.

-> Let y be the number of individual tickets.

-> It is "2x" because a couple means two.

     $12x + $8y = $1,580

     2x + y = 250

     Next, we will graph this.

-> The point at which the two lines intersect is our solution.

-> See attached.

-> x = 105, so 105 couple tickets

-> y = 40, so 40 individual tickets

Have a nice day!

     I hope this is what you are looking for, but if not - comment! I will edit and update my answer accordingly.

The mean height of the students in Marta's class is 60 in. There are 18 students in her class. Write and Solve and equation to f
Mashcka [7]

Solution: Let x be the height of a student in Marta's class.

The mean height of 18 students in Marta's class is 60 inches

We know that:

Mean = \frac{\sum x_{i}}{n}

60 = \frac{\sum x_{i}}{18}

60 \times 18 = \sum x_{i}

\sum x_{i} = 1080

Therefore, the total measure of all 18 student's heights is 1080 inches

All questions are about this system of equations:
Amiraneli [1.4K]
5x + 18y = 23
x + 3y = 2 .....multiply by -5
----------------
5x + 18y = 23
-5x - 15y = -10 (result of multiplying by -5)
----------------add
3y = 13 <=== the resulting equation

Prove diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular
Lisa [10]

Answer:

A rhombus is a parallelogram with four congruent sides.

So, all sides of rhombus ABCD are congruent.

i.e, \overline{JM} \cong \overline{JK} \cong \overline{KL}\cong \overline{LM}

Also, we know that the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.

Since a rhombus is a parallelogram.

By property of rhombus , if point N is the intersection of the diagonals as shown in the figure, then

\overline{MN} \cong \overline{NK}         .....[1]

\overline{JN} \cong \overline{NL}

In ΔJNM and ΔJNK

\overline{MN} \cong \overline{NK}     [side]    [by (1)]

\overline{JM} \cong \overline{JK}     [side]          [Given]

By reflexive property states that a segment is congruent to itself:

\overline{JN} \cong \overline{JN}   [Side]                 [Reflexive Property]

SSS(Side-Side-Side) postulates states that if three sides of one triangle are congruent to three sides of another triangle, then the two triangles are congruent.

then by SSS congruence,

\triangle JNM \cong \triangle JNK

By CPCT [Corresponding Part of congruent triangles are congruent]

Since, JNM and JNK are corresponding angles therefore,

\angle JNM \cong JNK

Linear pair theorem states that two angles that form a linear pair are supplementary.

By linear pair theorem, JNM and JNK are supplementary

this mean:

m\angle JNM +m\angle JNK =180^{\circ}

Since, the angles are congruent i.e, \angle JNM \cong JNK

so;

m\angle JNK +m\angle JNK =180^{\circ}

or

m\angle JNK +m\angle JNK =180^{\circ}

2m\angle JNK=180^{\circ}

Simplify:

m\angle JNK =90^{\circ}

also; m\angle JNM =90^{\circ}

therefore, the diagonals of JKLM are perpendicular to each other i,e \overline{JL} \perp \overline{MK}
