Many conflicts in Sub-Saharan Africa resulted from the way the European colonists used imperialism to conquer territories. At this time, European states also engaged in what is now referred to as the "Scramble for Africa" where they met together in the Berlin Conference and decided how to split up Africa between the European states. Of course, the African people didn't have any say in this and many tribes and cultures were forced together or separated by these new divides.
