Answer:

3. Not linear

4. Linear

Step-by-step explanation:

3. The equation has an exponent on the x. Since x is squared the graph is a parabola. The graph is a curve, not a line, so it is not linear.

4. Both the x and y have no exponent (which is an exponent of 1) The graph will be a line. This is a linear function.

What is linear equation?<br> What is quadratic equation?
mr_godi [17]
  • in the linear equation the greatest power of the variables is 1 for example:2X+4 this is a linear equation as the greatest power of the variable X is 1 also by drawing it in a graph you will obtain a straight line
  • while in the quadratic equation the greatest power is 2 for instance:X^2+4X-3 this is a Quadratic equation because the greatest power of the variable X is 2 also by drawing it on a graph you will obtain a parabola which is a curve "an upward curve or downward curve"

A man sells a type of nut for $7 per pound and a different one for $4.20 per pound, how much of each type should be used to make
qwelly [4]

Answer:

a type nut is 10 pounds

a different one is 14 pounds

Step-by-step explanation:

let a type of the nut be represented by t

Let a different one be represented by d

a type of nut cost $7 per pound

a different one cost $4.20 per pound

The cost of the mixture for 24 pounds = 5.37 * 24

= $128.88

t + d = 24 ........(1)

7t + 4.2d = 128.88 ..........(2)

From equation (1), t = 24 - d

Put t = 24 - d in equation 2

7(24 - d) + 4.2d = 128.88

168 - 7d + 4.2d = 128.88

168 - 2.8d = 128.88

-2.8d = 128.88 - 168

-2.8d = -39.12

d = -39.12 / -2.8

d= 13.97

d = 14 pounds

t = 24 - d

t = 24 - 14

t = 10 pounds

A type nut is 10 pounds. A different one is 14 pounds

A carpenter purchased 50 ft of redwood and 80 ft of pine for a total cost of $285. A second purchase, at the same prices, includ
Marizza181 [45]

Hey there!!

Let us take the price of the redwood as ' x ' and pine as ' y '

Then , we take it into an equation. We get,

50x + 80y = 285 -------------- ( 1 )

80x + 50y = 339 -------------- ( 2 )

Now, multiply the first equation with 8 and the second equation with 5

400x + 640y = 2280

400x + 250y = 1695

Now subtract the second equation from the first

390y = 585

y = 585 / 390

y = $1.5

Now substitute this into any equation

50x + ( 80 ) ( 1.5 ) = 285

50x + 120 = 285

50x = 165

x = 165 / 50

x = $3.3

Redwood = $3.3

Pine = $1.5

Hope helps!
