When using the spectroscope to view the spectra of the discharge lamps, what observations are recorded by the wavelengths and colors of all bands.

Spectra of discharge lamps

The spectra of discharge lamp from spectroscope shows the different electromagnetic spectrum, they include the following;

 • Ultraviolet rays
 • Visible lights
 • Infra-red, etc

The electromagnetic spectrum consists of radiations of different wavelengths which are indicated by different color bands.

Thus, when using the spectroscope to view the spectra of the discharge lamps, what observations are recorded by the wavelengths and colors of all bands.

How long will it take to melt 3500 kg of steel in a 50 kW oven operating at 65% efficiency from room temperature to 1600°C?
zepelin [54]

Answer:

71195 seconds or 19.8 hours

Explanation:

Because the steel will be melted, beginning from room temperature, energy is needed to heat it from room temperature to 1600°C and another to melt it at 1600°C.

We take room temperature to be 27°C, the specific heat capacity of steel to be 420 J/kg/K and the specific latent heat of fusion of steel to be 440 J/kg.

The heat required to heat the steel from room temperature to 1600°C is given by

H_S = mc_S\delta\theta

m is the mass, c_S is the specific heat capacity and \delta\theta is the change in temperature.

H_S = 3500\times420\times(1600-27) = 2312310000

The heat required to melt it at 1600°C is

H_L = ml_S

m is the mass and l_S is the specific latent heat of fusion of steel.

H_L = 3500\times440 = 1540000

Adding both, the heat required is 2312310000+1540000=2313850000\text{ J}

Because the oven is 65% efficient, its output power = 65\%\times50000 = 32500 \text{ W}

Now, energy = power * time

Time = Energy/power

t = \dfrac{2313850000}{32500}=71195 \text{ seconds} = 19.8 \text{ seconds}

A 65-cm segment of conducting wire carries a current of 0.35 A. The wire is placed in a uniform magnetic field that has a magnit
dimaraw [331]

Answer:

e) 67°

Explanation:

the force on the wire can be calculated using the expression below

F = BILsinФ

But we are looking for the angle between the wire segment and the magnetic field, then we can make Ф the subject of the formula from the above expresion, then we have,

Ф =sin⁻¹ (F/BIL)

The parameters is defined as

I =current that is been carried by the wire= 0.35 A

Ф = angle between the wire segment and the magnetic field, which is the unknown?

L = length of the wire=65 cm

B = magnetic field = 1.24

F= force on the wire = 0.26 N,

Ф =sin⁻¹ (F/BIL)

Ф =sin⁻¹ X .....................eqn(#)

Where X= (F/BIL)

We can calculate for X= (F/BIL), from eqn(#) by substituting value of Force, Lenght and

magnetic field

X=(F/BIL)= 0.26/(1.24×0.35×0.65)

= 0.26/0.2821

=0.922

Then substitute X into eqn (Ф =sin⁻¹ X)

Then

Ф =sin⁻¹ (0.922)

Ф=66.42°

Ф=67° approximately

Therefore, the angle between the wire segment and the magnetic field is 67°

An atom that has only one electron in its valence electron shell is ______ chemically reactive?
umka2103 [35]

The valence electrons are the electrons in the outermost electron shell of an atom.

Explanation:

The number of electrons in an atom's outermost valence shell governs its bondingbehaviour.

That is why elements whose atoms have the same number of valence electrons are grouped together in the Periodic Table.

Generally, elements in Groups 1, 2, and 13 to 17 tend to react to form a closed shell, corresponding to the electron configuration s2p6.

This tendency is called the octet rule, because the bonded atoms have eight valence electrons.
