ssed, 1 second after stone was tossed, 1 1/4 seconds after stone was tossed, 1 1/2 seconds after stone was tossed)
Clare’s stone reached its maximum height 1/4 second after it was tossed. Did Clare’s stone reach a higher maximum than Lin’s stone? (options yes clare's stone reached a higher maximum height, no lins stone reached a higher maximum height, no both stones reached the same maximum height)
What was the maximum height of Clare's stone? (options 1 foot, 5 feet, 8 feet, 9 feet, 16 feet) feet.

Answer:

1) Clare's stone hit first.

2) 1 seconds.

3) Same maximum height for both.

4)  9 feet

Part A:

h = (-16t -8)(t - 1)

When the stone hits the water, the height will be 0

⇒ (-16t - 8)(t - 1) = 0

<u>set to zero</u>

⇒ -16t - 8 = 0, t - 1 = 0

<u>simplify</u>

⇒ t = -1/2, t = 1

So, time was 1 seconds for Clare and 1.25 seconds or Lin. Clare's hit first.

Part B:

For Lin's stone: maximum height: 9 feet.

For Clare stone: (-16(0.25) - 8)((0.25) - 1) = 9 feet

No both stone reached the maximum height of 9 feet.

Aleonysh [2.5K]
General equation of parabola:  y-k = a(x-h)^2

Here the vertex is at (0,0), so we have y-0 = a(x-0)^2, or y = ax^2

All we have to do now is to find the value of the coefficient a.

(1,2) is on the curve.  Therefore, 2 = a(1)^2, or 2 = a(1), or a = 2.

The equation of this parabola is y = 2x^2.

The cost of the sheets is less for the second example, the second example is the better deal.

Consider the first example:

Here, A brand of sheets is on sale for “Buy one get one at 50% off”. If each sheet costs $18.00.

So, the value of the first sheet will be $18,

And since the other sheet is at 50% off .

That is it will be half of the original value

= 50/100 * 18

=9

Therefore, the cost of two sheets

=$18 + $9

= $27.

So, Six sheets will cost

=$27+$27+$27

= $81

Cost of six sheets will be $81

Now, consider the second example

In the second example sheets are 30% off.

So, 30% of 18

= $6.

Subtract that value from 18 and you will get $12.

So, cost of one sheet =  $12.

cost of 6 sheet

=  $12×6

= $72

In the first example, Six sheets costs $81, while in the second example six sheets cost $72.

Since the cost is less for the second example. So, the second example is the better deal.

The table shows information about some children.
Sindrei [870]

Answer:

P(Age\ 12) = \frac{2}{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

        Age 11    Age 12    Total

Girls   3             5              8

Boys   1             3             4

Required

P(Age\ 12)

The number of aged 12 children is:

Age\ 12 = 5 + 3

Age\ 12 = 8

The total number of children is:

Total=8+4

Total = 12

So, we have:

P(Age\ 12) = \frac{Age\ 12}{Total}

P(Age\ 12) = \frac{8}{12}

Simplify

P(Age\ 12) = \frac{2}{3}
