The solution to the system of linear equations is (-1,3). Here's how I got my answer step by step using the substitution method.

Step 1: Solve for either x or y in one of the two equations.

    y  -  4x  =  7
        + 4x   + 4x
-----------------------
    y = 4x + 7

Step 2: Plug in the value that you got for x or y into the equation that you haven't worked with yet.

2(4x + 7) + 4x = 2
8x + 14 + 4x = 2

12x  +  14  =  2
          - 14   - 14
-----------------------
12x = -12
-------  -------
  12      12

    x = -1

Step 3: Plug in the number you got for y or x into either of the two equations.

  y - 4(-1) = 7
  y  +  4  =  7
        - 4    - 4
-------------------
  y = 3

The final answer is (-1,3). If you want to check to make sure that this coordinate is a solution to the system of equations, all you have to do is plug in -1 for x and 3 for y into both equations.

Equation 1: y - 4x = 7
Equation 2: 2y + 4x = 2

3 - 4(-1) = 7                      2(3) + 4(-1) = 2
3 + 4 = 7                           6 - 4 = 2
7 = 7                                  2 = 2

I hope all of this makes sense to you :)

Answer:

−3x + y = −7       y - 9 = 5 (x - 1)

Step-by-step explanation:

y2 - y1 / x2 - x1

5 - (-1) / 4 - 2

6/2

= 3

slope intercept: −3x + y = −7

y - 9 = 5 (x - 1)

Beth purchased a computer, and its value depreciated exponentially each year. Beth will sketch a graph of the situation, where x
Katyanochek1 [597]

What is x?

It is the number of years since purchase. Can this be negative?

NO! Years cannot be negative. So we disregard negative x-axis.

What is y?

It is the value of the computer at that year. A computer starts off with a positive value (y axis) and depreciates to 0 after some years. Can this be negative?

NO! At 0 value, the computer is worth nothing! There is nothing known as negative value. So we disregard negative y-axis.

The graph that Beth will sketch will have to be in the 1st quadrant (positive x-axis & positive y-axis).

ANSWER: Quadrant I only

5p + 3 = 15 Write a situation that this equation could help you solve and explain how each part of the equation relates to the s
riadik2000 [5.3K]

Expressions can be represented as equations, and vice versa.

A possible situation is as follows:

John is 15 years old, and his age is 3 more than 5 times his brother's age

The equation is given as:

\mathbf{5p + 3 = 15}

This means that:

  • 15 represents John's age
  • P represents his brother's age
  • 5 and 3 are the constants that relate their ages
