When you consume more protein than your body needs, the excess protein is used to provide your body with energy or turned into fat.

The protein need for the body depends on the age, physical activities, development and changes. For all these processes, body need a large amount of protein.  Our body is at the phase of breaking and building muscles, so high amount of protein is not harmful. Excess amount of protein is stored in the body in form of fats and break down when need for body energy requirements. So if the amount is increase it will result in weight gain and body size.  

Even a high amount of proteins is healthy and safe, but massive increase in amount can cause harm to the body.  

Thus,harmful effects of massive amount of protein depend on patient health.
