Determine the empirical formula for a compound containing 85.6 g of carbon and 14.4 g of hydrogen. Please show work
photoshop1234 [79]

Answer:C_{1}H_{2}

Explanation:

take gram & convert to mol (using the mm of the element) ,

85.6g C \frac{1 mol }{12.01g} = 7.12          14.4g H\frac{1 mol}{1.01g}  =14.2 then take the smallest number & divide  7.12/7.12 =1  14.2/7.12= 2. since the numbers are in whole numbers the answer is C_{1}H_{2}.

Three teaspoons of sucrose(17.1 g) is dissolved in hot water to make a total volume of 250 ml solution. Calculate the molarity
dusya [7]
Molar mass sucrose :

C12H22O11 =  342.29 g/mol

number of moles <span>of the solute :
</span>
n = mass solute / molar mass

n = 17.1 / 342.29

n = 0.05 moles

Volume in liters :

250 mL / 1000 =  0.25 L

therefore :

Molarity  =  moles of solute / volume

Molarity =  0.05 / 0.25  => 0.2 mol/L
